Fashion photography has a unique power to captivate, inspire, and ignite our imaginations. One particular image that stands out is of a beautiful ethereal blonde model, dressed in an ivory silk skirt, with a whisper of pink tulle floating behind her. This photo captures a sense of grace, elegance, and otherworldly beauty, making it a perfect springboard for creative inspiration.
In this blog post, we'll explore how to draw inspiration from such a photograph, how to translate that inspiration into AI-driven concepts, and finally, how to bring those concepts to life in a studio setting.
Finding Inspiration in the Details
The magic of fashion photography often lies in the details. In this image, the interplay of the ivory silk and pink tulle creates a visual symphony that speaks to both softness and strength. The model's ethereal beauty adds to the dreamlike quality of the scene. As an artist or creator, it's important to dissect these elements:
Color Palette: The soft ivory and delicate pinks create a harmonious and serene palette.
Textures: The smoothness of silk against the airy lightness of tulle evokes a tactile contrast that is visually appealing.
Movement: The floating tulle adds a sense of movement, suggesting freedom and fluidity.
I typically do not keep the fashion photos that inspire me because the concept is then in my mind and I want to evolve it very separately from the inspiration image but I pulled this image so you can get an idea of the type of inspiration image I would've seen.

Translating Inspiration into AI Concepts
With the rise of AI, translating visual inspiration into new creative concepts has become more accessible. Let's consider how we can use this technology to expand upon our initial inspiration.
Step 1: Define the Concept
Imagine combining the ethereal beauty of these fabrics with the majestic presence of horses. Picture horses galloping through a misty field, their movement echoing the flow of the model's skirt and tulle. The goal is to create an AI-generated image that captures this fusion of grace and power.
Step 2: Use AI Tools for Midjourney Creations
Platforms like Midjourney allow us to create AI-driven art based on textual descriptions. By feeding the system with our vision — "a cream-colored horse with pale blue eyes wearing an ivory silk fabric and pale pink tulle" — we can generate various iterations of this concept.
Step 3: Refine and Iterate
Review the AI-generated images and select the ones that best capture the essence of the original inspiration. Use these images as a reference to further refine your vision. Consider elements like composition, lighting, and additional details that can enhance the final output. I originally envisioned this concept with my Lusitano gelding who is a cremello with blue eyes. As I looked at the images in Midjourney I thought of the location to best set up this photoshoot and that was in the barn with my PRE stallion Rio. And as much as I love silk purchasing enough yards for this photoshoot would be very costly and it would also lack the ethereal feel I wanted to capture. A whisper. So I altered the prompt to "a white Andalusian stallion with a long wavy mane standing in a white studio, yards of pale pink chiffon and ivory tulle are hanging in sections from ceiling to floor diffusing the light to create a dreamy, ethereal scene, the horse moves in and around the fabric strips creating a whisper"
Bringing the Concept to Life in the Studio
Once you have a clear vision, it's time to bring it to life in the studio. Here’s how you can recreate the ethereal beauty and dynamic movement of the original photo, enhanced with the majestic presence of horses.
Step 1: Prepare the Materials
To recreate the flowing textures and colors, you'll need 60 yards of pink chiffon and 40 yards of ivory tulle. These materials will help you achieve the layered, floating effect seen in the photo.
Step 2: Set Up the Studio
Background: Use a neutral backdrop to ensure the colors of the chiffon and tulle stand out.
Lighting: Soft, diffused lighting will enhance the ethereal quality. Use large softboxes or natural light if available.
Hanging the Fabric: Suspend the pink chiffon and ivory tulle from the ceiling or a high support. Allow the fabric to drape and flow naturally, creating a cascading effect that mimics the original photo's movement.
Step 3: Incorporate the Horse
Safety first: Introduce the horse to the studio and the fabric slowly to ensure they aren't going to panic. Always have an exit route for the horse in case they get overwhelmed. Having a trusted competent handler is key to a productive, safe photoshoot.
Horse: Choosing the correct horse is critical for this type of photoshoot. The horse should not be too reactive and should be desensitized to the movement and feel of fabric around them. This is where I say "don't try this at home".
Step 4: Capture the Moment
Experiment with different angles and compositions. Encourage the handler to move the horse gently, allowing the fabric to float and create a sense of fluidity. Capture both wide shots and close-ups to highlight the details and textures. Edit in post-processing to your own taste. Here all I did was remove the handler and add a little mist in the bottom half of the frame.
Conclusion
Fashion photography offers a wealth of inspiration, and with the integration of AI, we can expand our creative horizons even further. By dissecting the elements of a captivating photo and using technology to develop new concepts, we can bring our artistic visions to life in ways that were previously unimaginable. Whether in the studio or through digital means, the journey from inspiration to creation is a testament to the limitless possibilities of human creativity.
